With entries shortly closing we have seen an influx of beer lovers and lovettes entering the ‘Win effen beer for a year for you and a mate’ competition. This week has been an absolutely crazy one not just for us, but for the rest of the world. First and foremost, our very own Federation Square, which houses Transport Bar and effen Beer, was named as Number 5 in virtualtourist.com’s World’s Top 10 Ugly Buildings.’ Well I guess it is called the city’s meeting point for a reason; it is pretty hard to miss. Plus, you can also grab an effen beer there as well.

What about the two students arrested over not paying for their tip at their local diner? As far as I know, a tip is gratitude for providing service – good service. It is something that should always be earned. Arresting someone over $10 is just not the effen way. Sure a great bloke always tips, but a great bloke doesn’t arrest students for not paying for a tip. The police and the restaurant owner should just drink an effen beer; it seems they need something smooth to get them through this time. Maybe invite the students to join them in having a couple of effen beers as well; now that’ll be a great ‘I’m sorry’.

An effen beer will most certainly be passed around as a man who was misdiagnosed as being in a coma for the last 23 years was actually conscious the whole time. Due to new high tech scans, brain activity was passed as totally normal, and the man is now able to communicate via a computer. Celebrations can come in any form – drinking an effen beer will always make celebrations last forever!

One person in desperate need of an effen beer, especially from latest claims, is none other than Mariah Carey. Whilst going for an interview she needed her own toilet roll, two people to lower her onto a couch, one person to walk in front of her and one behind just in case she fell over, and more people in her entourage than the entire GMTV TV crew. The great thing about effen is that it’s easy to understand. It’s smooth as hell and goes down a treat without anything annoying undermining that. Mariah Carey should take a stubby and analyse it very closer, taking note of every effen experience. She is a great artist, now she just needs to smooth the hell out.

We’re halfway through the week and it feels like the week has just started. Effen beer was also featured in the Australian Penthouse magazine (http://www.australianpenthouse.com.au/7523/review-effen-beer/) which highlights the importance of high quality ingredients and the smoothness of the beer as it goes down the jugular.

On other matters, did anyone hear about Eric, the 80 year old man, who accidently drove 600km and was missing for 9 hours after taking the wrong turn following a visit to a friend’s house in NSW? That man definitely deserves an effen beer or two when he gets home and is safely on his trusty old leather recliner.

There’s also a French hotel who is taking ‘uniqueness’ to levels beyond that of what is regarded as sane. You can now book what is called a Hamster Villa fully equipped with your own hamster grain for food, running wheel for exercise and bales of hay for beds. I think these guys need to sit down, crack open a bottle of effen beer and smooth the hell out because that is not effen cool. Or at least include a bar fridge full of effen beer. CAUTION: effen beer is for great blokes, please do not consume if you experience any hamster tendencies.

Customs officials are trying to get a handle on a situation (forgive the pun) regarding a women found in a suitcase trying to cross the American Mexico border. If only this was in Melbourne; at least she’ll be on Border Security. Hopefully there’s still some room in there for clothes and some effen beer to keep her company.

And last but not least on our crazy effen stories, burglars in America warmed up milk to feed a crying baby after the residents of the house ‘were all tied up’. They literally walked in the house, tied everybody up, ransacked the house and then warmed milk in the microwave after the baby started crying. Those burglars are definitely not smooth at all. They need to look at ‘the man in the mirror’, sit down and drink an effen beer. They need to live the oath; they need to discover what a great bloke is. A great bloke does warm milk in a microwave for a crying baby, but does not tie up the parents while doing so!

To all the party people!

What a fantastic bright and sunny weather we had over the weekend! Pool party at my mate’s house; chops, steaks, snags, burgers; but the party only started after I arrived with a few cases of ice cold effen beer. Too many things happened yesterday and remembering most of it was a struggle, but it started with cracking open an effen beer and pouring most of it down the guzzler and some over the onion rings. The women were everywhere, and being a pool party, clothing was optional. The mood was perfect; bright and sunny day, beautiful women all around, great mates doing crazy things, sizzling barbeque behind and a smooth chilled effenTM beer to wash it all down.

As the sun started to go down and the day started getting a bit cooler, the party moved inside and another refreshing, cold case of effen was popped open much to the delight of the remaining 30 or so partygoers. Everyone was having an effen great time and speculation over me being the effenTM Great Bloke blogger seemed to be dying off as well.

At this point my mates and I started to get a bit crazy, just as expected. Songs started blaring over the stereo, everyone started throwing every other mate into the pool, and the party seemed to be an effen kickass one. With all the greatest mates in the world in one house and loads of effen beer to keep us going, it was always going to be awesome. Another mate, being the hero he is, even managed to get the esky floating in the pool and that is where we basically spent the rest of the night.

I crashed on the couch and woke up the next morning to find the house just the way it should be – evidence of an effen amazing night. Someone conveniently stacked the effen stubbies together on the floor, but that was the only welcoming sight. Being the effen Great mate I am, helping out was something that had to be done, and it only took half the day (reminded myself why I never did cleaning in the first place). We left the empty effen stubbies as they were to remind us of a great party and the many upcoming parties now that summer is here.

What a week!

The hangover of racing carnival has really set in with 30 degree heat wave topping it off. Now we have had the coldest October ever in Melbourne but seriously, having the hottest November ever may tip a few people over the edge.

And… not talking oldies here. My girlfriends gone crazy – I am of course blaming the heat or the cold and hot flushes of October and November.

Heading down to The Boulevard tonight for an effen™ beer with my mates. Half price – can’t wait. Saving some money before Xmas, you know how it is.

Tigers in town. I think I might head down to the course and watch him play a few rounds. Maybe he might want to have an effen™ beer with me after. Not likely! The guy is a freak! He may be good at golf (actually, the best) but he certainly doesn’t have a life. He is a machine just focused on winning.

Did anyone watch 60 Minutes interview with Tiger Woods? I have to admire him for his dedication but I just wanted to take that Nike cap off him and put on an effen cap and have a boat race with him with some effen™ beers.

Britney has been lip syncing her way around Australia. No beers for her!

Good Charlotte gave it to FoxFM presenters for showing them a picture of Britney with no pants. Good on them! Who cares for that crap anyway.

Sunday: Beginning Or The End?

Hi All!

So, after some good Saturday night fun, its time for Sunday, the BBQ day as few of my mates call it.

Ever wondered if Sunday was the beginning of a week or the ending of a weekend? No? Well then, it’s only me I guess.

Well personally, Sunday always bought a mix of feelings for me. It is a great day when I think about how refreshed I feel with two nights of great fun with my mates and also eagerly looking forward to the afternoon hang out time, enjoying the sun (possibly) and downing a few effen beers while chatting up with mates and watching my girlfriend mingle with my mates’ girlfriends, a whole get together thing.

On the other hand, by the evening, I feel this voice inside me, which says, “Oh Damn! Is it time to sleep and wake up to the Nightmare in The Elm Street Again?”. Little can I do about it though folks, otherwise next week the white little paper with my boss’s autograph, which I like to call my PAYCHECK, would be missing.

Anyway, I have started receiving a lot of attention from the girls in my neighbourhood fellas, I guess the word has gone out that I am the one writing these effen™ Great Bloke blogs. I may be in a lot of trouble if my girl friend comes to know about the attention I am receiving but tell you what fellas, I wonder how cool it would be for the bloke or the chick who wins this competition (Considering they are single, unlike me L )

Hi Again Everyone!!

Hope you all are having a good weekend till now. Well, if you’re reading my blog on a Saturday, instead of enjoying your weekend, then I dearly hope you at least are enjoying my blog with a few effen™ beers.

I went out with a large group of mates yesterday, to a local pub, we all had a pretty good time, drinking some fine crafted beers…..effen™ Offcourse!!! I was enjoying myself in a corner, listening to the music when I saw a highly attractive girl coming to me. I thought may be I had too much to drink (but that NEVER happens) and I was imagining stuff.

Turned out that I wasn’t imagining and the girl indeed was coming to me, she had apparently got to know that I am writing the effen™ Great Bloke blogs. At first I thought I actually have a fan (wouldn’t that be great). However, she was in fact unhappy with the way I write my blogs. She was upset because she thinks I portray effen™ to be “exclusive for men” and girls are not allowed to be the effen great “chicks”.

Well……to clear her and possibly a lot of other girl’s confusion, let me tell you all, effen™ Great Bloke competition or the effen™ premium lager for that matter is not confined to any particular sex, race, culture, or whatever other classification you can think of.

Yeah, I know the word “Bloke” does sound like it is directed towards males but think about it, how does the name “effen ™ Great PERSON” sounds to you? Kinda lame,right?

effen™ Great Bloke or effen™ Great chick, the competition is about doing something great for your friends, whether you want to call them mates, girl friends or whatever. It is about doing something special for your friend, it is about showing what you think an effen™ Great Bloke would stand for.

Where Is effen??

Good Day All,

It’s that time of the week again fellas, WEEKEND TIME!! Going back to home after a long day at work can really be tiresome but when it is a FRIDAY, there is this force inside us which drives us to quickly go home and get into our desired clothing (instead of the business attire a lot of us are subjected to in our office) and get started on the weekend plans.

Well, I spend my evenings the old fashioned way, going to the local pub with a couple of mates, downing a few premium crafted beers and talking about the random events happening in our lives. As the beer starts taking its toll, the talks continue to get crazier.

I am lucky though that my local pub does stock effen™ beer. A lot of my mates have been complaining about their local pub or bottle shop not stocking effen™ beers. All I can tell them is that, if it was to me, effen™ premium lager would be the second most easily available liquid…first being water offcourse.

Land Of Opportunity

Hey All!!

Coming back from office yesterday, waiting for my tram at the heart of the city, I couldn’t help but wonder how culturally diverse our country has become. Many countries boast about being a multicultural society but very few indeed can truly be called multicultural.

Looking at the many Asians, Indians, Arabs, Africans and Europeans (How do I know who’s an European? Well, their accent gives them away), I start to wonder if Australia is the new Land Of Opportunity.

I have seen so many Hollywood movies, where America has been called the land of opportunity. I too, for the longest of time believed that it was true. However when I see a Chinese guy doing accounts for an Indian software programmer, who is servicing an Arab client serving a majority of Australian consumers, then I think, may be….Australia is indeed the new Land of Opportunity.

Same But Different

Good Day Everyone!

Last night, my best mate and I decided to go on the roof, carry a couple of effen™ premium lagers and just look at the city from the top. (Kept safe distance from the edge though, it’s never safe practice to be at the edge, when on the roof, especially when you’re drinking)

It was wonderful experience fellas, quite relaxing. When my best mate bought this apartment with roof access, he did so because he wanted to enjoy drinking a few beers while looking at the city from top. Yesterday, he told me that it was the first time he was able to do it and mind you, he had bought this apartment a couple of years back.

It just reminded me about how important it is to appreciate the little things in life and not forget about them while trying to keep up with this fast paced life.

Ooooo!! I sound like a philosopher, eh? Well, whatever, I guess it’s good to be a little philosophical about life sometimes.

It sure sounds like another tip for the competition though. While thinking about the best or an outstanding idea, we may forget that sometimes, the best ideas are the ones which are the simplest. As a clever man said, “Winners Don’t Do Different Things, They Just Do Things Differently”

Saving Act From Day Light Savings

Hi Again All,

I had a pretty rough day at work yesterday; I was supposed to meet a client at 2pm at a cafeteria near his place. Since my boss was standing on my head, asking me to hurry more than I needed to, I eventually turned up at the café half an hour early.

I decided to order a decaf for myself, just to unwind a little after hurrying so much unnecessarily. I waited…. and waited…… and kept on waiting for the next one and a half hour before the client finally decided to turn up.

Quite honestly, I was waiting for at least a quick apology but instead he just came in, smiled, we shook hands and he ordered something for himself and started talking about business.

Being at my diplomatic best, I told him I had wrongly assumed the meeting time to be at two. It was then that our “Western Australian” client realised that we at Melbourne have started our daylight savings already.

It was a priceless expression on his face though.

Talking about daylight savings, my young cousin did an effen great bloke act yesterday. He and his best mate had their first exam and my cousin had this feeling that his best mate may not have turned his alarm clock 1 hour ahead. So, he skipped his last minute revision and drove all the way to his place to wake him up on time.

Now isn’t that one of the effen great bloke stories you might wanna give a thought to??

One of the guys asked me if an effen™ Great Bloke would ditch his girlfriend to go for a night out with his best mate? The answer to that is, No mate, he won’t.

Journey From Mon to Fri

What a weekend fellas, if only life was as perfect as this weekend was. A great time at the game with Melbourne “Storming” their way to their 2^nd NRL title in 3 years, good time at the beach and offcourse downing the best premium lager Australia has to offer, that’s right… our very own effen™.

We wait for our weekends eagerly, don’t we?

Monday, we are dragging ourselves to work, sitting (or probably standing) in the tram and wondering if we should give a serious thought to one of those “work from home” offers.

Tuesday, we can’t help but think about how we still have 3 more days after this before we get to the favourite time of the week. The irritating customers, who do not understand the meaning of “business days” asking about why their statements have not arrived in the mail yet, are just an addition to your problems.

Wednesday, you have come to terms with life and have this new found energy which should probably carry you till Friday.

Thursday, the energy is booming by now and while you’re smiling at the shouting customer in front of you and saying “hmm hmm, I understand”, your mind is occupied with the possible plans you have already started making for the weekend.

And Last but not the Least…Friday, The Independence Day, Nothing your boss or your customers say makes any difference to you, you know you have your reward waiting at the end of the day, and you look at your watch and counting down the hours before you can run out of the office doors and go to your local pub to down a few…….Do I need to mention what??

The competition is already in its 2^nd week and I have never had a better time in my life, reading all the submissions, watching all the videos, I feel like Tom Burlinson from Australia’s Got Talent, judging the videos and submissions. Although I would have loved a Dannii Minogue by my side but seems like I have to do with a lighter version of Freddy Krueger from Nightmare in the Elm Street a.k.a. MY BOSS.

Hi again folks, the weekend just got more fun for me. I thought I was coping well with the Saint’s loss last week but my best mate thought I could do better. So….a while back, I got a call from him and he has got return tickets for both of us to Sydney and box tickets for the Eels Vs The Storms…one more grand final, the NRL this time. The Eels have already claimed the match to be Sydney Vs Melbourne, instead of Parramatta Eels V Melbourne Storm.

So its going to be huge fellas and I CANNOT believe that my mate actually went out of his way to get the tickets for me, just because he thought I was upset over the Saint’s loss. I was nearly tempted to announce him as the winner of our competition, before I realised I can’t do that.

Although, I did realise that this would be a perfect example to share with you all, especially those who are thinking of ideas for their submissions. Is your mate as great a bloke as mine?

Hints or Suggestions Anyone?

Its weekend time again folks and memories of last weekend are still too clear in my mind. Walking down the good ‘ol Flinders Street, the “Cat” calls only got louder and I kept wondering what on earth kept the Sainties coach from giving more on field time to Luke Ball.

Well, all said and done, it was a great game of footy and although I wished our boys would have won, I think the game gave us all that we ask off it. It was close, had a few arguments, intensity was high, far from being one sided, isn’t that a perfect match with a few effen™ beers?

The Saints may not have won the Grand Final but they sure did qualify for being effen™ Great Blokes. Why? They sacrificed the 2^nd half for their beloved mates in the Cats’ team, after all, 2 grand final loss in two years wouldn’t have looked too great, eh? So, if that’s not being an effen™ Great Bloke, then what is?

I guess the answer to that question lies in the hundreds of submissions I have already received for the effen™ Great Bloke competition and the thousands of more submissions I expect this weekend. Weekends are always special, especially when you have worked more than your share of hours during the week, bearing a self praising boss who is gunning for your neck with the first mistake he could spot and not to mention faking a smile on your face for 8 hours a day even when customers are telling you to “shove your services up your….”.

However, the biggest and most exciting weekend of the year is just round the corner fellas, as the GRAND FINALE IS HERE!! St Kilda V The Cats! It just doesn’t get any bigger than this, especially if you have been an avid follower of any of these two teams.

So….Melbourne weather is at its unpredictable best, keen to showcase all four seasons in one single day, getting decent tickets for the game is like mission impossible and an expectant crowd which promises to overfill the MCG. Aren’t these the perfect ingredients to do something extraordinary for your best mate, going out of your way? These are the times when great bloke stories are made.

So if you have booked your tickets for the final, made all the other arrangements and think you’re all set, then think again. Who Am I??

Hi Again Folks!

This is my third attempt at writing blogs now and I have already realised that its not as easy as I thought it would be.

What I also realised is that its my third attempt and I have not yet told you, who am I?

Folks, I am the Effen Great Bloke, who is an Effen Great Bloke you ask?

Its me and perhaps you or may be that cool neighbor of yours, Effen Great Bloke is celebration of life personified. A bloke who lives the Effen oath to always look for good times

An Effen Great Bloke wears a three piece suit to the office with a regular cappuccino in his hand, hair all brushed and proper, looking set for that important client meeting. The same bloke will come out of MCG after his team’s victory, yelling out the team’s name at the top of his voice like a maniac, high fiving everyone he sees. Hi All!

A new day, a new blog!

Getting up in the morning can be so hard when you open your eyes and the weather outside makes you feel as if the sun went on a permanent vacation. The strong wind has decided to force you to think of an excuse to not go to work and the little drizzles of rain are not helping as well.

The only motivation is that summer shall be here soon and the fine times of tan, beach outings and BBQ parties would be in full swing. While there is never a bad time to down a few Effen beers, summer offers the best time to enjoy your Effen Beer along with your favourite BBQ dish or anything else that suits you. Especially with all your mates around you on a warm Sunday morning

While we wait for the summer to kick in, the greatest time of the year is already on. AFL finals have started and the anticipation and intensity is once again at its peak like every year. It’s once again time to go through your contact book and call up those forgotten friends and see if anyone has an extra ticket. Make sure you say your greetings first though, directly asking for tickets does not really go down too well with people. I learnt that the hard way last year when I called up an old mate and missed out on a corporate box ticket he had.

As much fun it is during the finals, unless you want to survive on cheese burgers for a week, do not and I repeat DO NOT watch the games sitting in a TAB with a bunch of strangers pushing you to bet more. Do it the old fashioned way. Sitting at the local pub, watching the game with your close mates, enjoying a couple of effen beers and betting a few bucks, that’s fun, isn’t it?

Anyway folks, hope you all enjoy the finals, I know I will! Hope I get up tomorrow to a bright sunny day and wind stops playing peek-a-boo with me.

Let The Fun Begin

Alrighty!! Here it is! Finally I have taken some time off my so called “busy” schedule to write the inaugural effen^TM blog.

This goes to all the blokes and gals out there who enjoy the social side of social media and enjoy talking about the days of old over a decent beverage, preferably a craft beer. As for those who waste their time downing lolly water and spritzers and are best left to the doof doof clubs on Chapel Street, I don’t really care about them.

Talking about care, Carlton’s Judd the “CHAMPION” should have put more care in his statements to the media. I can’t believe that he admitted using pressure point tactic on Lion’s Rischitelli. Who is under pressure now Judd, huh?!

Anyway…the media can be a pain in the royal backside sometimes. Last night I was watching the breaking news and they went on forever and day about the obesity epidemic, and food being the next fashion label all in the same breath. It drove me insane and I had to turn the bloody thing off once I found one of the right remote.

But sometimes you do find some quality moments on TV. Take this morning for instance - I watched a travel writer being friendly with a lion. Well as friendly as you can be with a lion’s gob hanging off the end of your arm. I’m sure that wasn’t meant to be the gist of the story, but it’s a good lesson not to disturb the King of the Jungle during their beauty sleep.

That’s why I associate high risk adventure with coming home after a hard days work and downing a few effen^TM beers, even though you have promised your wife that you will be home in time for dinner. Although she’s usually fuming by this stage, broom in hand - and I still have the nerve to ask her “Sweetheart! You’re still cleaning?”
